Kerry Brett & Kelley Tuthill:

Two local women doing their part in

    the fight against breast cancer.

     The History

Five years ago, Boston photographer Kerry Brett embarked upon a journey to raise money for a cause that hit far too close to home: breast cancer.  She created a portrait promotion with little knowledge of the far reaching effect it would have.  More than $75,000 later, with countless faces telling their stories, including family members and close friends, she is taking her awareness efforts to another level, as she finds with each passing year the stakes are higher still.

The Inspriation

Kerry discovered inspiration in fellow Hinghamite and friend, WCVB-TV5 news anchor Kelley Tuthill.  December 22, 2006, Kelley was faced with the devastating news of a breast cancer diagnosis. At age 36, having just given birth to her second daughter, Cecilia, the diagnosis was, simply put, most unwelcome.  Yet, instead of wallowing in self-pity, Kelley strongly faced the cancer and chose to publicize her voyage through chemotherapy, radiation and ultimately, surgery and recovery.

Kerry was repeatedly overwhelmed by Kelley’s fortitude in the face of adversity.  Continuing her ardent strides in the daily grind, Kelley was stalwart for her girls, and diaried continually on TheBostonChannel.com to chronicle her journey, giving Boston the news on a daily basis -- with style and grace.

Says Kerry, "I became motivated beyond measure by what I witnessed, as Kelley is truly an inspiration to all."

     Kelley's Request

When asked about her personal experience, Kelley speaks to others and focuses not on herself.  “The treatment for breast cancer can be challenging, to say the least.  Many endure surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation treatments.  I would not have made it through without the love and support of my husband, children, parents, sisters, family, friends and co-workers.  My support network is amazing, but I know sadly that is not every woman’s experience."

Kelley goes on to explain, "The Ellie Fund is the sister, the mom and the friends that not everyone is graced with as they fight their battle. Please help me help other women who are in need of a stronger cornerstone.  The Ellie Fund strives to enable them to focus on getting back the good health so many of us take for granted.”
