Serving thousands of patients across the state each year, Ellie Fund relies on volunteers to partner with its staff in a variety of ways. Volunteering with Ellie Fund is a beautiful way to honor your own journey, a person you love, or simply give back to the community. From being out in the community to leveraging your own expertise, there is a place for you to give your time.
Write Notecards to Donors and Patients
A little time. A lot of heart. Whether you have 20 minutes or an hour, your note can leave a lasting impression on our patients and donors. Join us in our office in Needham or write from the comfort of your own home.
- Thanking donors: Help us show our appreciation by writing thoughtful, handwritten cards to the individuals and organizations that make our work possible.
- Encouraging Patients: Send messages of strength, kindness, and care to the patients we support, letting them know they are not alone and that they have a community standing with them.
Volunteer at Ellie Fund Events
Throughout the year and all over the state, Ellie Fund is attending and hosting events. Each opportunity varies in volunteer commitment. From cheering on the sidelines of the Boston Marathon to guest registration at our annual golf tournament, we rely on volunteers like you.
Annual Opportunities include:
- Boston Marathon
- Each year, thanks to bibs generously provided by the BAA, we form and incredible “Team Ellie” of runners who go the distance to support breast cancer patients and families.
- As a volunteer, you can join us at our signature spot on Heartbreak Hill to cheer on Team Ellie and the thousands of inspiring athletes pounding the pavement for good.
- Sport your best pink gear, cheer your heart out and be a part of the excitement and community spirit at one of Boston’s most iconic events. Families and friends are encouraged to join!
- Falmouth Road Race:
- Sunday, August 16, 2026
- Each year our sea of pink at the Falmouth Road Race grows! Help us support our runners by:
- Joining us at the Expo on the days leading up to the race (Days and times tbd). We give our runners their jerseys and share Ellie Fund’s mission with over 7,000 participants and their families
- Help us form a ‘sea of pink’ to cheer on all our fabulous runners as they complete the 7-mile course. Families and friends are encouraged to join!
- Real Golfers Wear Pink Tournament:
- Tuesday October 7th, 2025
- Join us on the green for one of our most fun and impactful events of the year—Real Golfers Wear Pink! This annual golf tournament brings together supporters for a day of friendly competition, fundraising, and community spirit.
- As a volunteer, you’ll play a key role in making the day run smoothly. Tasks vary and will be assigned based on your availability and the event’s needs, including:
- Morning setup
- Tracking hole-in-one contests
- Assisting with the silent auction
- Greeting guests and providing directions

- Red Carpet Gala:

- Help make magic happen at the Ellie Fund’s Red Carpet Gala, our largest and most glamorous fundraising event of the year! Held on Oscar Sunday at the stunning Omni Hotel in Seaport, this 500-person celebration is where generosity meets Hollywood glam.
- We rely on an amazing team of volunteers to ensure the night runs smoothly from start finish. Volunteer roles include:
- Guest check-in and registration
- Auction paddle tracking
- Assisting and orienting guests
- Event setup and breakdown

Become an Ellie Ambassador
Looking to take your support for the Ellie Fund to the next level? Our Ellie Ambassador Program is a special tier of volunteers who help expand our reach and ensure more breast cancer patients get the care they deserve.
Ellie Ambassadors are passionate, community-driven individuals who represent the Ellie Fund in a variety of ways, including:
- Promoting our programs and events within their personal and professional circles
- Sharing their stories and experiences to inspire others
- Raising awareness through social media and local outreach
- Helping fundraise and boost involvement — especially during key campaigns like Turn Your Town Pink in October
Ambassadors receive training and support to confidently represent our mission and help us build strong, lasting community connections.

October is Breast Cancer ACTION Month at Ellie Fund. It’s one of our busiest and most exciting times of the year! From community events to local fundraisers, we do our best to show up everywhere we’re needed—and we can’t do it without you.
Join a Staff Member by Tabling at a Community Center
Throughout the year, Ellie Fund is invited to participate in community events like harvest fairs, Boston’s Open Streets, and more. These are incredible opportunities to raise awareness, connect with supporters, and spread the word about our mission. We need your help to do it well!
We will have Ellie Fund Staff there, but the extra help is always appreciated.
We’re looking for volunteers who are:
- Comfortable speaking on our behalf
- Knowledgeable about our programs and impact
- Friendly, welcoming, and proud to represent Ellie Fund.
We are always happy to work closely with you if you are new to this and still want to join!
Engage Your Company
Get your workplace involved with a mission that matters! Mobilizing your company in support of Ellie Fund is a powerful way to build team spirit and make a real impact for local breast cancer patients and families.
Here are some great ways to get started:
- Form a Team Ellie group to run, walk, or ride together at one of our events. See our “Join Team Ellie” section.
- Connect us with your HR department! We want to be a resource for employees or family members with breast cancer.
- Host a Lunch & Learn. Invite us to speak about Ellie Fund and how your team can get involved.
- Plan a Pink Day or Office Fundraiser. Wear pink, raise funds, spread awareness, and don’t forget to tag us on social media!
- Sponsor or attend an Ellie Fund event, like our Golf Tournament, Symposium, or Red Carpet Gala.
- Volunteer as a team. Come into our office to write thank-you cards or help with special projects

At Ellie Fund, we serve patients from diverse backgrounds. For many patients, English is not their first language. To ensure every patient feels seen, heard, and fully supported, we rely on volunteers like you who can help us bridge the language gap.
If you’re fluent in another language, we’d love to know! Your skills could help us immensely.
